Hi! I’m Emma.

I specialise in creating winning proposals for purpose driven businesses in the renewable sector.

With a background in both sales and bid management, I combine the two to create winning results.

I focus on working with and supporting your team, to communicate your message and offer with the greatest ease.

Where Did It Start?

I have always been a natural writer, having written 17 personal statements for all my friends at school to get into their university of choice! It is something I love to do and with a lot of experience, something I do well in the commercial aspect. After leaving school, I went into the world of sales, treading a steady path as account manager, sales manager and head of sales.

Working within the Built Environment predominantly. My main focus in these years was winning new business and developing relationships with my existing customer base. Keeping clients longer with a greater ARR (annual recurring revenue) rate than the rest of my team. This was executed through relationship building and the quality of service provided.

Why Bids?

Back To Business

This is not my first rodeo and I’m all the better for it. I learnt a lot of lessons - good and bad with my first consultancy, so this time round I am a lot older and wiser.

I have worked in a variety of sectors - Defence, Construction, Highways, Built Environment. But the one common theme has been the type of work - big infrastructure. Those tricky, high value contracts - my specialism.

I thoroughly enjoyed these years, working for one company for over 8 years, I really managed to develop my craft. Sales was and always has been fast paced, a bit of healthy competition within the team as well as monthly targets and a strong bonus structure. Always help keep motivation high.

It was always a good mix of being in office and regularly being out on the road visiting with customers. Working with colleagues across the business to pull together and make things happen. It is the only way to win consistently - a great base and structure to build upon.

I use all these skills and more to develop my own working practice today. A great work ethic, attention to detail, going over and above - all to provide great service and quality to my clients - and to theirs.

I took a side step into bids around 12 years ago. Natural progression and my best move yet! The perfect world to combine my knowledge of sales and client relationships, with research and technical writing skills. Starting as a Bid Manager within my existing company, continuing to utilise my full skill set bringing in those wins while supporting my colleagues in sales.

This role is challenging and equally fast paced, demanding but also rewarding. I wouldn’t change a thing. It is the perfect role for me which I have only continued to flourish in over the years. I get to do all the things which I love.

But I always knew I could do more for myself and my clients. This is when Winning Business 1.0 was formed. This was in operation from 2016-2021. I was offered an opportunity to lead on Renewables, and took it. A few opportunities later, and we’re now on version 2.0.

Why Renewables?

It’s new, exciting and meaningful. When I started in this industry, it was mostly to support the work of the Electric Vehicle Charging industry. There was an energy about it (literally). It always felt like we were building something new with purpose. I feel the same about all of the other renewable projects I have worked on since.

Much of my work now focuses on the infrastructure builds in this sector - wind and solar farms, battery storage plants & bio energy builds. The industry is moving quickly, you have to be quick to adapt. To work at the inception of this industry and become a leader in this field early on is a real advantage and privilege.

Personal Goals

I have always wanted to write, it is the thing I love to do the most. I am fortunate to love my job, so much that it doesn’t feel like work. I create a lot of content online to explain more about working in bids, because I think it can be greatly misunderstood.

I love to travel, so for periods of the year, I work from different locations running my business and seeing the world. The joys of being a business owner. It allows me to combine work, different time zones, events and new opportunities.

I enjoy sharing my industry knowledge within other bid professionals where I unofficially mentor and coach more junior individuals. This allows them to benefit from my experience, giving support and guidance when needed. I have worked as a business mentor for a number of years with Enterprise Nation, NatWest Accelerator and on the scholarship programme with students from UWE Bristol for the last 3 years.
